 Nevada City is a renowned Victorian town in the gold country of California at 3,000 feet elevation. The town is full of family atmosphere and is a major northern California artists' community just one hour from Lake Tahoe, Sacramento (the state capital), 90 minutes to the glitz & gambling of Reno, Nevada, and three hours to either San Francisco or the Napa Valley wine country. Winter sports enthusiasts are 45 minutes from Sugar Bowl ski area - and more ski resorts are nearby!
Our location is considered ideal for those intending to make "day trips," although there is so much to do in Nevada City you probably won't want to leave!

Four miles down our road is the scenic Yuba River where you can picnic, sunbathe, swim, fish, kayak or pan for gold. All sporting equipment can be rented locally. Within an hour of the house, there are countless other lakes, rivers and streams as well as hiking trails and bike routes.

Sunset Magazine featured our little village four times in one year: once for the largest number of gourmet restaurants in a few city blocks, again for its famous Victorian Christmas, a third time for the autumn color (late October), and for its history, craft fairs, Music-in-the-Mountains, live theatre and other fun offerings.

Great Towns of America guide book features Nevada City as one of the top 100 towns in its listings, having rated our town against all other communities with populations of 50,000 or less.
Nevada County for several years has had the lowest crime rate of all 58 counties in California! We also have the greatest per capita percentage of senior citizens, yet schools top rated for excellence just behind those of California's Marin County, and more community volunteers than anywhere else in the nation. We're a refreshing mix of conservatives and liberals, too!

The annual Nevada City Classic bicycle race draws participants and spectators from all over the world. CNN covers the event, and major Olympic and other cycling luminaries take part. There are four major running events in Nevada City each year from 5k to 20k, which bring great numbers of visitors and participants here.
As we said, there is so much to enjoy in Nevada City and the immediate area that you are assured a wonderful vacation - and you can be as relaxed or as active as you wish.
Sacramento International Airport is an hour away. We can charter an airport van or limo pick-up for you and they will deliver you right to our front door! Just 15 minutes from the house is a small craft airport, and should you wish a rental car, local companies will bring the vehicle to you.
